The Tipping Point: When Traditional Sales Reaches Its Limits
EGYM Wellpass's rapid growth, fueled by acquisitions in France and the U.S., ruthlessly exposed the weaknesses of traditional sales methods. Johannes Füß, Senior Vice President at Wellpass, puts it succinctly: "Classic sales channels like cold calling no longer work." The core issue wasn't a lack of effort but a strategic inefficiency. In an expanding, international environment, manually searching for the right contacts, primarily HR professionals, became an insurmountable obstacle. This method was neither scalable nor precise enough to keep pace with the expansion. The waste was enormous. Furthermore, the information-seeking behavior of the target audience had changed. According to Füß, "AI-generated content is replacing Google Search results," which necessitates a focus on platforms "where our target audience is active and which they trust." An urgent need arose for a system that not only provided contacts but also created data-supported, relevant reasons to engage, and that could function consistently across different markets. The decision for a new strategy was therefore not an optimization, but a necessity for survival to secure sustainable growth.
